  1. 4.  Adlington, Richard was born on 16 Nov 1734 in Sutton in Ashfield ; was christened on 22 Nov 1734 in Sutton in Ashfield (son of Adlington, John and Sarah); died about 1782; was buried in 1783.

    Notes:

No birth or death details found to date for this Richard
He marries Ruth Leeson 18th Oct 1757 Sutton in Ashfield She is born /christened 3rd June 1732 so I expect Richard to be of like age
His two sons Richard and John are both in business as Joiners and he may have had them apprenticed unless he himself was a trained joiner carpenter Both sons kept cattle a milch cow or milch beasts according to their respective wills and this suggests a farming background When his will was located Richard is stated to be a carpenter as I had surmised
The will found for Richard puts his death at about 1782 but no burial record has been found
The will follows on shortly after the death of his mother (2 years later)and I rather think he is concerned about his health He charges his brother in law Samuel Stafford and his cousin William Leeson as trustees and executors to sell or dispose of his estate at best to maintain and provide for his wife Ruth and to maintain and educate his four children Mary, Richard, Ruth and John Adlington They are to share equally
The real estate mentioned is in Skegby and sounds to be the estate left to him by his mother Sarah
Witnesses are John Dakenye Ann Leeson and John Leeson
In the event Richard lives for another 10 years after the will is drawn the will proved in either 17 Aug 1782 or 7 Jan 1783 It is probable that the first date Aug 1782 is in fact the date of death incorrectly transcribed and his wife Ruth has predeceased him The terms of the will would still apply the estate being split equally between the four children

Richard married Leeson, Ruth on 18 Oct 1757 in Sutton in Ashfield . Ruth (daughter of Leeson, William and Calton, Mary) was christened on 3 Jun 1732 in Sutton in Ashfield ; died on 27 Jun 1775 in Sutton in Ashfield . [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Leeson, Ruth was christened on 3 Jun 1732 in Sutton in Ashfield (daughter of Leeson, William and Calton, Mary); died on 27 Jun 1775 in Sutton in Ashfield .

    Notes:

    Publication of Banns 1757
Banns of Marriage were published between John Flecher and Ruth Leeson both of this parish on the three following Sundays the 15th 22nd 29th of May 1757 by me John Green Curate
    Then later
Richard Adlington and Ruth Leeson both in this parish on these three following Sundays 2nd 9th and 16th of October 1757 by me John Green Curate
No other Ruth found Presumably John Fletcher and Ruth broke it off after the banns were called and she went ahead with marriage to Richard Adlington 5 months later

    Children:
    1. Adlington, Mary was christened on 12 Nov 1758 in Sutton in Ashfield .
    2. 2. Adlington, Richard was born on 6 Jan 1764 in Sutton in Ashfield ; was christened on 8 Jun 1764; died on 11 Sep 1826 in Sutton in Ashfield; was buried on 20 Sep 1826 in Sutton in Ashfield .

Samuel Boot and Margaret Coates both in this parish on the three following Sundays the 6tn 13th and 20th of Sept 1757 by me J Green curate

Samuel married Coates, Margaret. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  4. 7.  Coates, Margaret

    1. 3. Boot, Margaret was born on 1 Dec 1765 in Sutton in Ashfield ; died on 10 Aug 1828 in Sutton in Ashfield; was buried on 21 Aug 1828 in Sutton in Ashfield .

Generation: 4

  1. 8.  Adlington, John was christened on 25 Feb 1692 in Tibshelf (son of Adlington, Johannis and Mariae); died before 1766.

    Notes:

Scant evidence for this couple John Adlington and Sarah Names from Kathryn Lewin courtesy Jim in Oz maybe also from Doris Henessy The 4 children baptised have parents John and Sarah They are the first entries in the Nottingham baptism index Sutton in Ashfield parish register has no entry for John and Sarah
A will has been found for Sarah Adlington widow proved 1770 made 20th May 1766 in which she leaves money to her sons John, William, and George and also dau Sarah She further leaves money to two grandsons one William son of the first mentioned John and William son of the above mentioned William
There after all her real estate in Skegby goes to son Richard his heirs and assignes forever and all the residue also to Richard who is appointed Sole Executor
This will confirms and enlarges the family of Sarah and John but without telling us her maiden name It also indicates that her husband pre deceased her

There is a John Adlington going spare He is on the list supplied by Jim Adlingon and Les Adlington baptised 8 Aug 1699 South Normanton Death estimated 1767 He is a close fit as husband for Sarah but supporting evidence is needed A marriage would be ideal This John appears to be taken as three children appear under his name as father and these three all girls marry and so nothing fits
Sheila has come up with a John Adlington buried at Tibshelf 22 Apr 1743 She thinks he is a possible and there is a will which might be his Await events The snag is 1743 is rather early and puts some of the known children out of kilter
A reading of this will raises the possibility that this John is not the husband of Sarah but is in fact his father

John married Sarah. Sarah was born about 1705; died about 1770; was buried on 5 Apr 1770 in Sutton in Ashfield. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Sarah was born about 1705; died about 1770; was buried on 5 Apr 1770 in Sutton in Ashfield.

    Notes:

A will for Sarah Adlington made on the 20th day of May 1766 has been located in the Nottingham archives
This document is subject to some copyright restriction which forbids copying and so I have a transcript made by Sheila Clark The will denotes Sarah as a widow and is proved in 1770 thus giving us an approximate date of death for Sarah and also an estimate of the date of death of her husband John Adlington In her will Sarah mentions 6 children two more than previously known although the first born Mary does not feature and so must be presumed dead A sum of £20 each goes to 5 of the children and her real estate goes to son Richard who is also her executor This estate is located in Skegby
Witnesses are John Dakeyne Samuel Stafford and William Vickors
There is a further associated document concerning a bond of £200 payable to the commissary of the exchequer at the court of the most reverend arch-bishop of York This binds Richard Adlington and his brother in law Samuel Stafford to produce a true inventory of all the Goods Rights Credits Cattles and Chattles of the said deceased and if required may have to enter a further bond presumably if the value exceeds the first figure
We also have a burial for Sarah Adlington 5th April 1770 Sutton in Ashfield This could be her

Another item concerns a Sarah Sheppherd apprenticed to John Adlington of Tibshelf date 6- 1- 1727 and her sister Hannah is apprenticed to a William Hill This item is from the records of the overseers of the poor and may not be connected
