Listed with his mother and siblings in 1881 census Hucknall under Huthwaite Notts Address Mill Lane age 11 giving birth date approx 1870
Arthur left school at 13 to go down the pit and remained a coal miner until he was 29 years of age During this period he married Fanny Blyth Utting (1894)and they started a family. (The first child Elsie did not survive)
The 1901 Census shows Arthur living with his wife Fanny at 26 Campbell Grove Nottingham, occupation Wesleyan Evangelist age 31 She is age 35 The children living there are John age 4 Hector age 2 and Ernest age 9 months
At about the age of 21 he felt called to the ministry and began a period of active Christian work, in Sunday School, as leader of the Mission Band, and later as a local preacher When he became a fully fledged Minister his work took him to many different places throughout the country and during the first world war the family were in the east end of London Here Fanny went down with the flu epidemic which swept the country in 1918 and she died in 1919
Of their family of 7 children 5 survived
In 1921 He married Florence Hobbs a fellow worker in the East End Missioin
His life was devoted to Christian worship in the Methodist faith and to care and thought for his fellow men
