  Dorothy and Mary were twins and adopted by Aunt Lizzie and Charlie Burr Dorothy married Fred Dow in Scotland prior to emigrating first to Australia and then to NZ They had four children Dorothy had a history of depression and mental instability generally well controlled However in 1977 she committed suicide by drowning in the river in Kawerau where they had lived for most of their married life
